Marathon İzmir 42K and 10K Races Concluded with Thrilling Success

The 5th edition of the highly anticipated International Izmir Marathon concluded with a crescendo of excitement as athletes from around the world gathered to test their mettle on the streets of Izmir. With the backdrop of Kültürpark providing a picturesque setting, the marathon proved to be a celebration of athleticism, determination, and international camaraderie.

In the International Road Races category, Marathon İzmir Avek, accredited with the prestigious World Athletics Label, drew an impressive turnout of 5,600 athletes hailing from 38 different countries. From seasoned professionals to enthusiastic amateurs, runners of all backgrounds converged to take on the challenge of this esteemed marathon.

The 42-kilometer race, a true test of endurance and skill, witnessed fierce competition among the elite athletes vying for the top honors. In a display of sheer grit and determination, Kenyan runner Vitalis Kibiwot emerged triumphant, crossing the finish line with a remarkable time of 02:11:08. His stellar performance was closely followed by Ethiopian Sendeku Alelgn, securing the second position with a time of 02:13:42, while Kenyan athlete Silas Kurui clinched third place with a time of 02:13:47.

Meanwhile, in the women's division, Ethiopian athlete Aamelmal Tagel showcased her prowess, dominating the course and claiming victory with an impressive time of 02:37:26. Not far behind, Ethiopian runner Bekelech Bedada secured the second spot with a time of 02:42:10, closely trailed by Suguru Oktabe from Japan, who finished third with a time of 02:43:16.

The 10-kilometer segment of the marathon provided a platform for both seasoned runners and newcomers to showcase their talent. Mohammad Hosein Tayebi led the charge in the men's category, followed closely by Ahmet Civci and Bedri Şimşek. Meanwhile, in the women's division, Tuğçe Karakaya, Natalia Kahraman, and Özlem Işık emerged as the top performers, demonstrating their speed and endurance over the challenging course.

Despite facing adverse weather conditions, including strong winds along certain sections of the route, the resilience and determination of the athletes shone through, as they pushed themselves to achieve their personal bests and conquer the course.

The marathon, sponsored by Avek Otomotiv, enjoyed widespread support from the local community and businesses, with Sidrex, İzmirli, SPX, Kula Doğal Maden Suyu, and Thera Vita among the notable sponsors contributing to the success of the event.

The awards ceremony, held amidst a backdrop of cheers and applause at Kültürpark, saw dignitaries including Elvin Sönmez Güler, CHP Group Spokesperson of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Council, presenting accolades to the deserving winners.
